GVA Commander.-Lt. Col. John Nash Jr.

This battalion was formed with five companies in the spring of 1862. Crute states that some of the men were from Augusta and Richmond counties, but, to date, my research has shown Fulton, Muscogee and Gwinnett counties.

The battalion served first in Georgia, then was transferred to Tennessee and assigned to the command of Gen. H. Marshall. It was active in southwest Virginia and the Knoxville, TN campaign, then was transferred to the Department of Richmond in 1864 and stationed at Chaffin's Bluff, VA. The battalion participated in the Petersburg Siege and served as infantry under Gen. C. A. Evans in the Appomattox Campaign. It was surrendered on April 9, 1865 at Appomattox with 1 officer and 19 men.
